El Ranchero is widely recognized for its authentic Mexican cuisine and cozy, inviting atmosphere. Reviewers frequently highlight the generous portion sizes, particularly praising items like tacos, tortas, and traditional dishes such as menudo and chilaquiles. The bakery section receives consistent acclaim for its diverse selection of pan dulce and other desserts, enhancing the overall experience. Customers appreciate the combination of a comfortable dine-in space alongside a well-stocked grocery and bakery area, adding convenience and charm. While some minor notes on specific dish preparations, like queso consistency, have been mentioned, the overall food quality remains a strong point. The inclusion of thoughtful touches such as complimentary homemade soup and flavorful beverages like horchata contributes positively to the dining experience. El Ranchero stands out as a reliable spot for both quick meals and leisurely visits, delivering authentic flavors with friendly service in a welcoming environment.

01/15/2025 I had a chance to stop by & this place was right on time due to an early morning appointment that i had & a craving for s . I was surprised to find a Mexican restaurant open before 10 a.m. The place is cozy with a dine in area to the left upon entry and a small but efficient grocery/bakery to the right. I ended up buying 3 s and 2 and steak fajita dinners, 3 containers of seasonings that I needed lol, and 6 beautiful pastry items that only cost 6 yep... only 6 & a large orchata. So yes... so much for only buying s right? The food was awesome , perfectly seasoned, and just damm good! I was like a kid in a store. I wanted 1 of every pastry item they had for sale, but I exercised SOME self-control. Hobart has some hidden s, and El Ranchero is one of them. It's definitely not a trip wasted from Crown Point. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll be back

Ordered the Torta Cubana...it was delicious..very big and filling. This can easily feed two adults. I tried eating the whole thing but I failed.

Cozy little restaurant and bakery...all the pan Dulce is hard to choose from... I did not get to try the tamales or the fresh chicharrones (pork rinds) because I couldn’t even finish my plate... horchata was good... and the complimentary homemade soup was an awesome touch to start the meal off... queso was a little runny but was still standard for queso... you can’t go wrong with huevos y chorizo (eggs and Mexican sausage)... breakfast taco with sausage and agh again pretty standard but again good... the chilaquiles endiablados were phenomenal..! Definitely hit the spot with the tortillas de maiz (corn tortillas)... rice and frijoles were both standard/good... Service was friendly and efficient... restaurant was clean...

All of their food is authentic. We especially love the menudo, pork taco meat and chilaquiles. The bakery has a large variety.

Food was great and reasonably priced. We ordered an appetizer of nachos but barely touched it because our plates were so big and full. I had a chimichanga dinner which was great, my wife had a burrito suiza dinner. My son's had tacos and one of them had tacos suiza. Food was delicious. We will be back there soon

Located in new Chicago Indiana, this restaurant, grocery store is a homey local mom and pop shop. Of course, not to be discounted for that at all. They have a bakery and small grocery store with Hispanic flare. I’m not familiar with all of the Hispanic items in the bakery, but they sure looked tasty. As for the restaurant, our orders were hot and tasty. Service was quick and kind. The restaurant was clean and neat, located with plenty of free parking. They offer delivery. Overall, certainly worth trying, I think you'll enjoy the experience. NOTE they are closed Mondays and open 9-6 Tuesday-Saturday, Sunday close at 3.
